Sony Interactive Entertainment to buy audio brand Audeze


Sony Interactive Entertainment has signed an agreement to acquire Audeze, an audio technology brand and a high-end gaming headset company, the company announced. According to Sony Interactive Entertainment, this acquisition will strengthen its efforts to innovate its game audio experiences. Audeze will continue to operate independently and develop products for multiple platforms, while benefiting from being part of the PlayStation ecosystem.

“Audeze is a leading headset brand, and this acquisition highlights Sony Interactive’s focus on innovation and providing the best audio experience to PlayStation gamers,” said Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platform experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment in a press release. “We’re excited to bring the Audeze experience to the PlayStation ecosystem, building on the great strides we’ve made with PlayStation 5’s Tempest 3D audio technology and Pulse 3D wireless headset.”

Audeze CEO Sankar Thiagasamudram added: “Sony Interactive provides Audeze with a unique opportunity to expand our business, as we continue our mission of delivering world-class headphones for recording professionals, audiophiles and gamers. “We are also eager to contribute to Sony Interactive’s efforts to take PlayStation audio experiences to the next level.”

Terms of the transaction, including the acquisition cost, were not disclosed due to contractual agreements. Here’s an overview of Audeze, according to the press release: Headquartered in Santa Ana, California, Audeze develops award-winning headphones for the professional audio, audiophile and gaming markets. These headphones use Audeze’s patented technologies and unique planar magnetic drivers to deliver an exceptional sound experience for both consumers and recording professionals, including sound engineers at many game development studios. Audeze designs and manufactures its planar magnetic drivers and professional headphones in its California facility.
