Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord for PC announced

Digital Eclipse has announced Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord, a complete remake of the original Wizardry game that started the franchise. After two years of behind-the-scenes development, it is now available in Early Access for PC via Steam and GOG for $29.99.

This exciting project seeks to revive the essence of the game that gave rise to the Wizardry series. The Early Access version already allows you to enjoy the core game, although there may be some bugs and some visual elements are not yet 100 percent complete. The development team is working on additional environment and object textures, audio elements, and character animations. More updated content and assets are expected to be added over time, but some elements may change or stop working during the process, such as game saves, which are expected to break between major updates.

Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord is a full 3D remake of the first game in the legendary Wizardry role-playing game series. This game was the first party RPG ever released and served as a direct inspiration for series like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. The Digital Eclipse version retains the appeal of the classic and offers numerous improvements for fans of modern role-playing games.

According to Digital Eclipse, Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord is expected to be content-complete and out of Early Access by the end of 2024, although this is not guaranteed as unforeseen factors could lengthen the development process.

Lovers of classic role-playing games and new players alike have the opportunity to immerse themselves in this reimagining of the title that gave rise to a legendary franchise. Although the game is in development, it promises a unique and nostalgic experience for all fans of the Wizardry series and RPGs in general.
