Closing of First Contact Entertainment, developers of the Firewall and Solaris Offworld Combat series

The developer First Contact Entertainment, known for its work on the Firewall and Solaris Offworld Combat series, has announced its closure after almost eight years of operation. The news comes shortly after the release of “Firewall Ultra,” published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation VR2 on August 24, and when it was announced that they were working on “Solaris: Offworld Combat II.” Below is the full message from First Contact Entertainment.

After nearly eight years of working with the most incredible team I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of, I am sad to announce that we will be closing our company, First Contact Entertainment, at the end of this year. The lack of support for virtual reality within the industry has finally had its consequences. As developers of AAA VR games, we simply can’t justify the expenses required to move forward. We are a team of fearless innovators willing to push new technologies to their limits. I am extremely proud of the team and grateful to our investors, partners and, of course, our community of dedicated and passionate players. It’s been a wild ride. Thank you!

The difficult goodbye from First Contact Entertainment

The statement reveals the sad news that First Contact Entertainment will be closing its doors at the end of this year. Despite recently releasing “Firewall Ultra” for PlayStation VR2 and having plans for “Solaris: Offworld Combat II,” the studio cites a lack of support for virtual reality in the industry as the main factor behind this difficult decision.

As AAA developers of virtual reality games, the team at First Contact Entertainment has proven to be innovative and passionate about pushing technology to new limits. The message expresses gratitude to investors, partners and the loyal community of players who have been an integral part of this exciting journey of almost eight years.

As First Contact Entertainment bids farewell, there remains a recognition of their dedication and contributions to the world of virtual reality and gaming in general.
