SapStaR Games and Gami Studio announce DEVIATOR, a Metroidvania game with parry mechanics and hand-drawn visuals

Chinese publisher SapStaR Games and developer Gami Studio have revealed DEVIATOR, a side-scrolling Metroidvania game that features 2D hand-drawn visuals and focuses on a parry mechanic. A demo will be available for PC via Steam starting February 1. Below is an overview of the game, according to its Steam page:

About DEVIATOR: DEVIATOR is a parry-centric Metroidvania game, with exquisite 2D hand-drawn visuals. Explore unknown lands and mysterious cities, delve into enigmatic realms of consciousness and encounter peculiar creatures. Discover the truth behind this chaotic world.

Key Features:

  1. Just Parry It! – Don’t ask, just stop it! The parry is the core combat mechanic in DEVIATOR that allows you to turn fierce enemy attacks into nothing with precise timing. Practice diligently, friends; If you are too slow, you will face defeat. After all, you wouldn’t want to take a hit from an enemy.
  2. Power yourself! – Each battle is a tense and exciting game of wits. When attacks and parries are successful, the character will continually build up momentum. Once you pass the threshold, you can enter a powerful enhanced state. In this state, the character gains multiple benefits, with improved damage and game feel. Although taking beatings from monsters may seem pitiful, the upgraded status actually looks cool.
  3. Everything Hand Drawn, Everything Good – This fantastic world is built with vivid 2D hand-drawn art craftsmanship. From enemies to buildings, and the various styles of different regions, everything leaves a deep impression. The lush green forests, the gloomy mechanical city, the treacherous and icy canyons… But don’t get too lost in the landscape, danger lurks around every corner.
  4. “Very Easy, But I’m Dying” – Be careful where you step! Danger lurks everywhere in this world. The game carefully provides numerous challenging levels for you to show your skills. Of course, experiencing failure can be just as exciting as success. Prepare to “suffer.”
