Narrative adventure game ‘Until Then’ set in the Philippines announced for PlayStation 5 and PC

Publisher Modus Games and developer Polychroma have announced the narrative adventure game Until Then, set in the Philippines, for PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam). The launch is scheduled for 2024.

Until Then offers players the opportunity to immerse themselves in the lives of Mark Borja and his friends as they navigate the joys and sorrows of another year of high school. From waking up in a typical teenage bedroom, practicing piano, racing to meet homework deadlines, and building (and breaking) relationships, players reminisce about the daily insecurities of high school life. However, everything changes when a fateful encounter sets off a series of events that turn Mark’s life upside down. People disappear and memories become unreliable. Players must discover a hidden truth with Mark and his friends in this narrative adventure, and race to unravel the mystery before it is too late.

Featured Features:

  • Play your own adventure: Meet a diverse and painfully familiar roster of characters you can chat with in person, via text, and email. Build relationships, work on group projects, and watch their personal stories unfold alongside yours.
  • Investigate the environment through everyday technology: Explore the depths of social networks where your likes and comments can have consequences. Scroll through social media posts, emails, web pages and more on your smartphone in-game, where you might discover clues about the people and world around you. Chat with your friends, classmates, and even strangers.
  • Explore themes of love, loss and friendship: Face philosophical problems as the main character. Make difficult decisions and make mistakes. Will Mark stand up for his friends and be there when they need him or will he let them down? Can he heal his wounds by leaving the past behind? Decide for yourself how Mark grows and strives to improve throughout the story.
  • Play addictively mundane mini-games: Insert a flash drive, fight with a friend for more fish balls at the food stall outside, pay for the jeepney. Immerse yourself in small games that you find yourself playing in everyday life.
  • Immerse yourself in a cinematic visual experience: Witness an intriguing narrative uniquely presented in eye-catching hand-drawn pixel graphics and immerse yourself in the warm colors and music of a world trying to overcome tragedy. Characters, landscapes and objects are mixed in 3D. Shadows, reflections and lighting set the tone for a carefully crafted experience.
  • Experience a world inspired by Filipino places and culture: Travel through Philippine-inspired landscapes in search of the truth. From the heart of the bustling capital to long bus rides past grassy fields and coastal towns, explore the world of Until Then set in a fictional version of the Philippines. The interior spaces are shaped by the idioms of the locals, setting the stage for a recent past.

With a focus on immersive storytelling and the exploration of universal themes through a unique cultural lens, Until Then promises to take players on an emotional and thoughtful journey through the lives of its characters as they unravel the mysteries that surround them.
