Sales of Balatro, the poker-inspired deck-building game, exceed one million units in its first month

Publisher Playstack and developer LocalThunk announced that total sales for the poker-inspired deck-building game, Balatro, have surpassed one million units in their first month since launch. Balatro launched for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam on February 20.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support and enthusiasm from players around the world,” Playstack CEO Harvey Elliott said in a press release. “The success of the game is a testament to the quality and creativity that the independent sector can offer, proving that even in uncertain times, innovative games can thrive. We extend our deepest gratitude to every player who has joined us on this adventure.”

Solo developer, LocalThunk, added: “I am very grateful to all the players and people who have made this possible. I still can’t fathom the response to this game, and I’m thrilled that so many people were able to have fun with my silly creation. I am very fortunate to be able to continue working on my passion as a career. Thank you!”

LocalThunk will continue to work on the core Balatro experience and make it accessible to more players. A mobile version is also in the works.
