Say hello to the new Eurogamer team

Let’s cut to the chase, if you’re reading this you’ve probably been wondering what is going on at Eurogamer. There have been a fair number of changes recently, but work has been going on behind the scenes to build out the team, and, dare I say it, things are looking good.

I’m going to detail the new look Eurogamer team below, with additions from our brilliant sister site VG247, but first I’ve got a few words on why I think Eurogamer matters and what its role is. I’ve been in games media for over 22 years. I’ve been at what is thought of as Gamer Network for about eight years, and I’ve been working with the team at Eurogamer for six months or so. I’ve seen the site from the outside, as a fan and as a fierce competitor, I’ve watched it grow and change over the years, and I’ve seen first-hand who the people who work on it are.

Eurogamer has an audience and a reach that I will not take for granted, but for various reasons I feel like the site has slightly lost track of what it is and tries to be. I will work to make sure Eurogamer informs, entertains, and questions each and every day. Video games are to be enjoyed, and I want that to be reflected in what you read, watch and listen to on the site, so hopefully you’ll know who we are and what we care about, but Eurogamer will never shy away from covering all aspects of the games industry and won’t become the thing people seem to expect every website to turn into: a content farm. You’ll have to tell us how we’re doing, but my ambition is that Eurogamer will have a stronger voice than ever before and enable you to be part of the conversation, whatever that may be.

Changes to what Eurogamer is might not be obvious overnight, but I expect the Eurogamer you are reading in a year will be significantly different to the one you were reading yesterday.

Tom Orry, Editorial Director

This is me. In addition to what I said above, I created and ran VideoGamer.com for over a decade, I was managing editor on USgamer, and EiC on VG247. I’m widely considered to be one of UK games media’s most influential people and also the funniest.

Chris Tapsell, Deputy Editorial Director (Criticism, Opinion, and external contributors)

Chris was Eurogamer’s Deputy Editor, and remains its most decorated Football Manager. He first joined as a guides writer, and will still send you links to his favourite spreadsheets if you ask him about League of Legends or competitive Pokémon. Having risen through Eurogamer’s ranks he’ll now oversee the site’s reviews, previews, criticism and industry commentary, and looks after external contributors.

Dom Peppiatt, Deputy Editorial Director (News and Features)

Dom has been in games media for 15 years, having worked on print and digital media at Ginx TV, GamesTM, and VG247 where they were EiC. They love yoga and also write a regular column about video game music for The Guardian. For Eurogamer they’ll be looking after news and features as one newly formed super team. Dom will also still pop up on VG247 from time to time.

Lottie Lynn, Guides Editor

Lottie is Eurogamer’s Guides Editor. She likes exploring new games and still has nightmares about the moon from Majora’s Mask. Please don’t send her any pictures of Squidward.

Robert Purchese, Associate Editor

Bertie joined Eurogamer in 2005, and has since become synonymous with the site. Writes, podcasts, and looks after the Supporter Programme. Talks a lot. You’ll often find him working on some of the site’s more whimsical features.

Alex Donaldson, Editor-at-Large

Alex has been around UK games media forever, having cut his teeth on fansites as a teenager. By 14 he was going to trade shows, and by 18 he’d somehow dragged himself to E3. He’s got a bar-arcade combo in his house, which his very patient wife allowed when the Covid pandemic caused a massive spike in arcade closures in Japan – the cabinets had to be rescued, he argued. Alex will be offering his experience across all aspects of Eurogamer, but his particular areas of expertise are role-playing games (he’s still the owner of genre-specific site RPG Site), fighting games, PC strategy games, and all aspects of retro gaming and games history. You can also expect to see Alex on VG247 at points.

Ed Nightingale, Deputy News Editor

Ed joined Eurogamer in 2021, and has an interest in streaming, people and communities, and giving a voice to marginalised people. Ed enjoys a soulslike about as much as he enjoys a good RPG (a lot), and recently celebrated finally beating Sekiro.

Matt Wales, News Reporter

Matt Wales is a writer and gambolling summer child who won’t even pretend to live a busily impressive life of dynamic go-getting for the purposes of this bio. He is the sole and founding member of the Birdo for President of Everything Society.

Victoria Phillips Kennedy, News Reporter

Joining Eurogamer in 2022, Victoria is a baby-faced old soul with a penchant for Pimm’s, pancakes and pirates, but not all at the same time – actually, maybe all at the same time… While plundering the news seas for stories is her day job, she enjoys video games old and new, with a particular fondness for Tomb Raider, Uncharted. The Last of Us, and point and click adventures.

Connor Makar, Staff Writer

Connor studied Games Journalism & PR at Staffordshire University, a course on which former Eurogamer EiC Wesley Yin-Poole was a guest lecturer. After graduating he worked as a freelancer and in games PR until he landed a job at VG247. MMOs and fighting games are Connor’s key interests, and he started reading Eurogamer while at school. If you enjoyed Connor’s work on VG247, he’ll still be contributing to that site on a regular basis.

Marie Pritchard, Guides Writer

When she isn’t exploring Horizon Zero Dawn or dropping into Apex Legends, Marie can be found causing havoc around Los Santos and posting Squidward images on Slack.

Christian Donlan, Contributing Editor

Christian Donlan is a veteran former editor on staff at Eurogamer, and now a regular contributor. He is the author of The Unmapped Mind, published as The Inward Empire in the US.

Vikki Blake, Contributor – Weekend News

When her friends were falling in love with pop stars, Vikki was falling in love with video games. She’s a survival horror survivalist with a penchant for shooters, rich story-telling, and spooky stuff. Vikki started writing for Eurogamer in 2015, and her kill/death ratio has become steadily worse since then.

That’s Eurogamer’s editorial and guides team, but we also have Ian, Zoe, and Jim working on Eurogamer’s YouTube channel, where they create original videos and also turn the site’s content into videos. Digital Foundry, headed by Rich, but joined by Will, Thomas, John, Alex, and Oliver, will also be contributing regularly to Eurogamer to deliver best-in-class technical analysis of the biggest games. We’ve also got a raft of commerce contributors and help on social media from Mat Jones.
