Despite all the exciting news Pokemon that we received during the Pokémon Presents live stream last week, it seems that Game Freak and The Pokémon Company They had even more surprises in store for the next DLC of Scarlet and Violet. Through a new trailer that premiered at the Pokémon World Championships last weekend, we have discovered that The Indigo Diskthe second part of the DLC, will have returning favorites, new moves, and a mysterious nineteenth Tera Type.
From the beginning of the trailer, we are met with an exciting announcement: all of the first partner Pokémon from the past (commonly known as “starters”) will return in the winter expansion. In most games in the series, starters can only be obtained at the beginning of the game, and you can only obtain one of three. They are also typically region-exclusive, meaning that Gold and Silver companion Pokémon cannot be found in the wild in, for example, Diamond and Pearl. More recently, some past starters have been made available through post-game activities, but having them all available in the wild is a first for the series. Even through trades and transfers, some of these Pokémon (like Bulbasaur) were not available in Scarlet and Violet in any way, so this update confirms their new compatibility.
The trailer also provided suitable names and types to the new Paradox Pokémon that were hinted at in the previous trailer. Roaring Bolt (based on Entei) is an Electric/Dragon type, while Iron Crown (based on Cobalion) is a Steel/Psychic type. Each one was presented with a new move that they will have access to. Raging Bolt can use Thunderclap, which attacks an enemy before his attack move activates. Meanwhile, Iron Crown gets Tachyon Cutter, which is guaranteed to hit twice in a row. We also saw two other new moves: Psychic Noise deals damage and prevents the target from healing, while Upper Hand will always hit before an enemy’s priority move.
Finally, the trailer shows us a nineteenth Tera Type. Shown in the battle interface as a rainbow-colored hexagon, we don’t know how it will affect battles or how it will be obtained. The trailer concludes with an animation of a set of crystals, each themed with one of the Pokémon types, forming a crown. For more details, we may have to wait until Scarlet and Violet’s second DLC, The Indigo Disk, hits the online store this winter. Excitement and anticipation are at an all-time high for Pokémon trainers!
