Devolver Digital acquires System Era Softworks, the developer of Astroneer

Return Digital has announced the acquisition of System Era Softworks, the studio behind Astroneer. In the statement, Devolver Digital reveals that eight years ago it made the “terrible mistake” of almost publishing Astroneer (rather than actually publishing it). However, despite going their separate ways, Devolver Digital and System Era Softworks remained mutual admirers as both companies grew.

The announcement continues, “Today, after nearly a decade of mutual admiration and friendship, Devolver Digital and System Era declare their undying love for each other the only way they know how: by turning off the lights, turning up the heat, and forming a business relationship. “strategic”.

In a statement, System Era Softworks CEO Brendan Wilson said: “We have always seen the Devolver brand as a seal of quality. “Their focus on developers has paved the way for some of the boldest and most creative ideas to flourish, and we are thrilled to join a group of like-minded people where our games will receive the support they need within a culture we love.”

System Era Softworks will continue to “create great video games” under the Devolver Digital umbrella as a first-party studio. Some of the team has already started working on something “new and exciting,” and Astroneer’s 2024 roadmap is underway.

This partnership promises exciting developments in the world of video games and a bright future for fans of Astroneer and other System Era Softworks titles.
