Compile Heart and Sting Announce Tactical RPG Touhou Spell Carnival for PlayStation and Switch

Compile Heart and Sting have revealed the first information, teaser trailer and screenshots for the single-player bullet hell tactical RPG Touhou Spell Carnival. This new game, set in the Touhou Project universe, features a spell card competition in Gensokyo that triggers an intense bullet hell battle over 30 days.

The Touhou Project series, created by the ZUN-led development circle Team Shanghai Alice, is known for its bullet hell-style shooter games. Set in Gensokyo, a land isolated from the outside world, the story follows characters such as Reimu Hakurei, the Hakurei shrine maiden, as they resolve disturbances called “anomalies” caused by various factors.

In Touhou Spell Carnival, Gensokyo becomes involved in a mysterious event called Futousai, a festival organized by Yukari Yakumo in which participants fight for spell cards. Reimu Hakurei, noticing the “mysterious columns” that have sprung up in various parts of Gensokyo, joins the competition to discover the true reason behind this festival.

The game is scheduled for release in spring 2024 in Japan, coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Switch. Touhou Spell Carnival promises to offer an intense and strategic experience in the Touhou Project universe, attracting fans of tactical games and the “bullet hell” genre.
