Nintendo announces the production of a live-action movie of “The Legend of Zelda”


Nintendo has announced the development of a live-action movie of “The Legend of Zelda” in collaboration with Avi Arad. The film will be produced by Nintendo representative director Shigeru Miyamoto and Arad Productions president Avi Arad. Wes Ball will direct the film. Financing will be joint between Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment, with more than 50 percent financed by Nintendo. Worldwide theatrical distribution will be handled by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Miyamoto shared in a tweet: “I am Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action ‘The Legend of Zelda’ movie for many years with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many highly successful films. I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially begun development on the film with Nintendo actively involved in the production. It will take time to complete, but I hope you look forward to it.”

The announcement confirms the partnership between Nintendo and Avi Arad to bring the iconic video game franchise “The Legend of Zelda” to the big screen. The project has the direct participation of Nintendo in the production, which promises a faithful adaptation to the essence of the game. The film will be directed by Wes Ball and will be distributed globally by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
