Atlus has teased the next game in its Persona series due for global release, ahead of a livestream later this week.
“Think you dropped this,” reads an official social post, with an emoji of an owl.
While some have jumped to the conclusion of a Persona 6 announcement, this is actually news of a full release for mobile game Persona 5: The Phantom X, following its open beta.
The image in the post is the same colour scheme as Persona 5, while the owl emoji is a reference to Lufel, a character in the new game who’s the equivalent of Morgana (thanks TheGamer).
A livestream will take place on YouTube this week on 15th May at 3pm UK time (11pm JST), where the game’s release date will be revealed
The Phantom X was revealed back in 2023 and comes courtesy of Chinese developer Perfect World. An open beta launched in China last year, with a full global release now anticipated – although all details have so far been in Japanese.
The game will feature familiar elements from the base game, but with gacha gameplay.
It follows two previous spin-off games from Persona 5 – hack and slash follow-up Persona 5 Strikers and strategy game Persona 5 Tactica.
Last year saw the release of Persona 3 Reload, a remake of the genre-defining RPG from which Persona 5 grew the series’ fanbase.
Little is known about Persona 6 yet, though leaks suggest it will be coming to multiple platforms and it’s expected to have a green colour scheme.
In the meantime, why not give Atlus’s newest RPG a go – the brilliant Metaphor: ReFantazio.
