Nintendo seemingly prioritising Switch 2 indie dev kits for games that wouldn’t be doable on Switch 1

Games Industry has published a feature about indie games on the Nintendo Switch 2, or the lack of indie games on Nintendo Switch 2. One developer believes that Nintendo is holding back Switch 2 development kits for indie creators that need more power and whose work could not be accomplished on the original Nintendo Switch console. No Man’s Sky is one indie title which got the good early and have had a successful launch, but unfortunately others have not been so lucky. Hopefully demand is eventually met with supply.

Gowland thinks that in terms of sending out Switch 2 dev kits, Nintendo is prioritising titles that wouldn’t be doable on the previous console. “The indie folks I know who have been successful in getting kits are working on games that are in need of the Switch 2’s extra oomph,” he says.

“I believe due to the comprehensive backwards compatibility,” he continues, “their [Nintendo’s] current priority is to provide kits for titles that don’t have an OG Switch version in the works – at least that was the impression I got when we reached out about Into the Restless Ruins.”
