Sony Interactive Entertainment announces new slimmer PlayStation 5 models

Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed exciting news for video game lovers by announcing new slimmer models of the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, which will launch in November in the United States at select local retailers and PlayStation Direct, followed by a global launch in the following months. In Japan, a specific release date of November 10 has been announced.

The highlight of these new PlayStation 5 models is their significant reduction in size and weight. Compared to previous models, the new PlayStation 5 models have reduced their volume by more than 30 percent and their weight by 18 percent for the standard model and 24 percent for the Digital Edition.

A notable feature of these models is their cover design, with four separate panels: the top part features a glossy finish, while the bottom part has a matte finish. Additionally, the internal storage capacity has been greatly improved, reaching an impressive terabyte.

Users who purchase the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will have the option to add the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive included with the standard PlayStation 5, as it will be offered as a standalone accessory. Additionally, the new models will include a horizontal stand, and a new vertical stand compatible with all PlayStation 5 models will be sold separately.

Important news is that once stocks of the existing PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition models run out, the new designs will be the only options available for purchase in the future. This is an exciting evolution for PlayStation 5 fans looking for a more compact and efficient experience. Get ready for a new era of entertainment with the slimmer, sleeker PlayStation 5!
