Xbox users have discovered a new Game Pass Ultimate loophole that saves them £120 a year

Xbox players have found a way to get 13 months of Game Pass Ultimate for under £75, using Microsoft’s own membership conversion policy to sidestep the usual £14.99 monthly fee (working out at around £5.76 per month, instead).

By letting their subscriptions lapse, then stacking 36-months worth EA Play codes before reactivating Ultimate, players are taking advantage of a 3:1 conversion ratio that turns three years of EA Play into a full year of Game Pass Ultimate, plus an extra month of top for good measure.

Here’s a break down on how it works:

  • Run down your Game Pass subscription until it expires.
  • Buy three 12-month EA Play codes from Amazon for £19.99 each.
  • To avoid being flagged by Amazon for bot like activities, purchase each code individually, not in a single checkout.
  • Redeem the EA Play codes on your console or online
  • Pay £14.99 to upgrade your account to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for one month.
  • This triggers the conversion of all 36 months of EA Play into 12 months of Ultimate, plus the additional month, topping out at 13 months for £74.96.

The trick, first spotted on IGN and HotUKDeals, relies on Xbox’s conversion policy: three months of EA Play becomes one month of Ultimate.

After signing up for Game Pass, you’d end up with 13 months of Game Pass Ultimate for less than £75, a saving of around £120 a year. There’s always a chance Microsoft could patch this down the line, so if you’re tempted, it might be smart to act sooner rather than later.

While it seems to good to be true, the only standout issue is the method will only work for those without an active Game Pass Ultimate membership. Plus, it’s just for those in the UK, as Amazon in the US currently isn’t selling the EA Play 12 month codes required.

It also works for those who have never signed up for Game Pass Ultimate before, which is fairly good timing considering this year’s additions so far, such as: Doom: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Oblivion Remastered, alongside the second wave of games for May, including Metaphor ReFantazio, The Division 2, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, and more.

It’s a welcome bit of news for Xbox players recently hit by price hikes across the board, including confirmation that some upcoming first-party titles will see price increases up to $79.99. Albeit, it’s also worth noting that Game Pass managed to dodge the 2025 price changes, at least this time round.
