Developer Well Told Entertainment has announced that its exciting roguelike first-person shooter, “The Foglands“, will be released for PlayStation 5 with support for PlayStation VR2 and Quest 2 on October 31. The PC version via Steam will be released at a later date.
“The Foglands” is an atmospheric anti-Western roguelite that puts you in the shoes of Jim, a new Runner. As a Runner, the people of Hold depend on you to bring back recovered goods and fend off the twisted creatures of the Mist. When a gigantic behemoth threatens Hold’s survival, it’s up to you to go out and stop it… even if it means dying trying. Fortunately, the mysterious character known only as The Stranger is willing to lend a hand. His enigmatic deck of cards can grant you supernatural abilities to enhance your running ability, but at a cost. He also has a few tricks up his sleeve, such as preventing Jim from succumbing to his dying breath. He Explore, fight, loot and die… and then do it all again!
The game immerses you in an ever-changing world of fog, where you will explore, fight and collect as you seek to defeat the gigantic worm-like creature that threatens the survival of your Hold. As you progress, you will discover the secrets that the Mist hides along the way.
“The Foglands” combines hand-to-hand combat with shootouts, using PlayStation VR2’s eye tracking and precision latency to deliver an immersive and exciting gaming experience. Purposeful targeting and eye tracking allow any object you can grab to become a weapon, giving you a variety of options in fighting the dangers of “The Foglands.”
The game is not just about surviving, but also about upgrading your equipment. Collect scrap metal and fog oil to unlock equipment upgrades, new items, and additional areas. But keep in mind that death means any items you’ve collected are left behind, so use the loot gates to send your scrap home to spend on the next attempt. In addition to material acquisitions, while on a run you will pick up abilities from The Stranger cards that will make you increasingly powerful. Choose from three different outfits that enhance each play style: Fists (melee), Weapons (guns), and Keys (exploration).
