Spike Chunsoft has shared exciting details and screenshots for Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Islandfeaturing new mechanics and characters, including “Sumo Status,” “Behemoths,” “Sacred Items,” the “Monster Dojo,” and new characters Hibiki, Sokusen, Tugai, and Seki.
Sumo Status: One of the most powerful conditions is “Sumo Status.” Shiren gains this powerful state when his satiety level exceeds 150 and loses it when it drops below 120. By eating Onigiri and certain items, you can control when you gain this formidable form. In this state, Shiren gains advantages such as an increase in attack power, more maximum HP, and the ability to nullify traps by crushing them under his feet. However, in this state, Shiren cannot use objects to move.
Behemoths: Mysterious gates appear in the game, known as “Behemoth Gates,” which lead to a kingdom full of giant, powerful monsters called Behemoths. These monsters are much more powerful than normal ones and have a defensive barrier that makes them immune to frontal or side attacks. Encountering a Behemoth is a sign of danger, and the best option is to flee.
Sacred Items: A new addition is “Sacred Items,” rare equipment that possesses random enhanced abilities. There are two types of “Sacred” items: Blue and Gold. Gold items are rarer, but their effect varies each time, meaning that a Blue item can have a more powerful effect than a Gold one. Additionally, there are rare categories of Runes called “Natural Runes,” which are found in some of the “Sacred” Weapons and Shields, and have unique effects that cannot be obtained anywhere else.
Release date: Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island is scheduled to release on January 25, 2024 in Japan and February 27, 2024 globally, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
