Developer Kinetic Games has announced that it will delay the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions of the cooperative psychological horror game Phasmophobia. The previously planned August release window will be postponed until the week before Halloween in October. As previously announced, the PlayStation 5 version will have support for PlayStation VR2, and both versions will have the cross-play option. Phasmophobia was initially released in Early Access for PC via Steam on September 18, 2020.
Here’s Kinetic Games’ full message about the delay:
“Dear Phasmophobia community,
Firstly, we would like to thank you all for your support and for being as excited as we are for the console launch. Due to a recent fire incident in our office building and unforeseen development issues, our ability to test and develop has been significantly impacted. After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to delay the console release, which was originally scheduled for August, while we figure everything out. We are now aiming for a special release during the week leading up to Halloween in October. This gives us the time to refine and fine-tune everything. “Your patience and understanding means the world to us, and we can’t wait to bring Phasmophobia to consoles.”
This delay will allow Kinetic Games to address unexpected challenges that have arisen due to development issues and a fire incident at its office. Despite the additional wait, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series players will be able to enjoy a more polished and streamlined gaming experience when Phasmophobia finally arrives in October, an especially appropriate time for a horror game like Halloween.
