Funcom has excited fans with the release of a new trailer and development diary for its upcoming open-world, massively multiplayer online survival game, Dune: Awakeningas part of the first broadcast of Dune: Awakening Direct.
In the trailer titled “Creating Worlds: From Book to Film to Game,” Funcom takes viewers on a breathtaking journey into the heart of Arrakis, featuring never-before-seen footage of the game. Interviews with Greig Fraser, the award-winning cinematographer of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two, and Funcom creative director Joel Bylos, reveal the creative overlap between Dune: Awakening and the recent films. Viewers will get a glimpse of what it takes to bring the ultimate Dune fantasy to fruition.
Following “Creating Worlds,” the “Survive Arrakis” trailer explodes from the sand with colossal sandworms and rising ornithopters. Players will be able to gather materials to build their base in the style of their choosing, explore the deadly deserts in a variety of vehicles, learn deadly techniques and skills from the Great Schools of the Empire, and rise from survival to domination. Players will witness the impressive scale and freedom of a living Arrakis.
Dune: Awakening combines the toughness and creativity of survival games with the social interactivity of massively persistent online multiplayer to create a unique and ambitious open-world survival game. More sandbox than theme park, the game’s emphasis lies on the freedom it offers in choosing and pursuing objectives, as well as the emergent moments that arise when they collide with those of other players.
Dune: Awakening is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC (Steam). A release date has not yet been announced, but fans are looking forward to diving into the vast and dangerous world of Arrakis.
