Berzerk: Rechargeda reimagining of the shooter released in 1980, Berzerk, will be available starting November 9 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam and Atari VC, according to the announcement made by the publisher Atari and developer SneakyBox.
The original game, Berzerk, is considered one of the gems of the golden age of video gaming in the 1980s. It was a multi-directional top-down shooter that challenged players to face hordes of armed robots in an electrified infinite maze. One of the highlights of the original game was Evil Otto, who manifested as a smiling face that relentlessly pursues players. Unlike other enemies, Evil Otto is indestructible and can pass through walls.
In Berzerk: Recharged, Evil Otto returns with updated graphics, precise dual-stick controls, and a new soundtrack by acclaimed Megan McDuffee. Players will enter a deadly labyrinth filled with vocal, menacing robots whose only goal is their downfall. Fans remember the original Berzerk as one of the first arcade games to use voice synthesis, and Berzerk: Recharged retains that dialogue. The robots that chase you have a sinister and sarcastic monologue in their operating system, so you will have to endure phrases like “kill the humanoid” and the provocative “Coward, fight like a robot!” while you fight to survive.
Don’t miss this exciting reinvention of an arcade classic when Berzerk: Recharged hits multiple platforms on November 9.
