Atari has announced an agreement to acquire the Emeryville, California-based game development studio, Digital Eclipse. This acquisition will allow Atari to expand its internal development capabilities and leverage Digital Eclipse’s “industry-leading expertise” and proprietary technology. In turn, Digital Eclipse will be able to grow its business and capabilities by expanding its development capabilities and accessing Atari’s “world-class intellectual property” and management expertise.
According to Wade Rosen, president and CEO of Atari, “Digital Eclipse is the best in the world at what it does. They have a deep love and respect for the history of the video game industry and are known for developing critically acclaimed projects based on historical franchises. Digital Eclipse, along with Nightdive, are perfectly in tune with Atari’s DNA and its renewed purpose. Personally, I’m excited to see how far we can push the limits of retro innovation together.”
