NetEase Games announces the creation of Worlds Untold, a new fully remote game studio led by Mass Effect series veteran Mac Walters

NetEase Games has revealed the creation of Worlds Untold, a new fully remote game studio based in Vancouver, Canada, and led by Mac Walters, project director and lead writer of the Mass Effect series. With over 20 years of gaming and writing experience, Walters has played prominent roles in the Mass Effect series, most recently serving as project director on Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Previously, he was the lead writer on Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3.

Worlds Untold aims to develop new intellectual properties with “depth and possibilities that cannot be contained in a single game, or even a single medium,” according to the press release. His first project is an action-adventure game set in the near future, in a “breathtaking world full of mystery and exploration.”

Worlds Untold CEO Mac Walters said: “We are creating incredible, meaningful stories that we believe are best told and experienced through gameplay. We start by creating worlds that we all dream of discovering and then we will place the player in the main role of the most unforgettable adventures. The NetEase Games team shares our vision and passion for using cutting-edge technology to create the best new games possible. “The support and creative freedom of their teams gives us the opportunity to deliver on that vision.”

Simon Zhu, president of global investments and partnerships at NetEase Games, added: “NetEase Games believes in empowering creators to think outside the box and help execute their vision as seamlessly as possible. “Worlds Untold is building a team of highly experienced individuals to develop new worlds and action-adventure games for everyone, and we are excited to see what Mac and the team will produce.”
