Bungie announces delay of Destiny 2’s “The Final Shape” expansion until June 4, 2024

Bungie has announced that the long-awaited expansion “The Final Shape” for Destiny 2, originally scheduled for February 27, 2024, will be delayed until June 4, 2024. This expansion marks the culmination of the first ten years of Destiny’s narrative and represents countless hours shared by the Guardians. The decision to delay the release is intended to offer an even bigger and bolder vision, in the hope that it will be remembered and appreciated for many years to come.

In an official message, Bungie said: “The Final Shape is the culmination of the first ten years of Destiny’s narrative and, for Guardians everywhere, countless hours spent together. “We want to honor that journey, so we are taking the time to deliver an even bigger and bolder vision, one that we hope will be remembered and treasured for many years to come.”

This change in the release schedule raises questions about the future of updates. The Season of Desire begins tomorrow and will run until the release of “The Final Shape” in June. While most of the Season of Desire content and narrative will run from late November through February as originally planned, the team will be adding new content available to all players until the release of “The Final Shape.” In February, this will include new weekly progression quests called Wishes and the launch of Moments of Triumph with unique rewards.

Additionally, Guardian Games is moving forward to March, with a renewed focus on class vs. class competition. Starting in April, a two-month content update will be released to everyone called “Destiny 2: Into the Light,” preparing players for their Guardian’s journey to the Traveler. This is in addition to the ongoing efforts of our PvP Strikes Team, including three new PvP maps launching in May.

Bungie acknowledges the community’s eagerness to experience “The Final Shape,” but says they are excited to have the additional time needed to bring their vision to life. They promise to share more details in April, including all-new gameplay to highlight the important content additions currently in development. They thank the players for their patience and for being part of this journey with them.
