The studio founded by former Marvelous executive vice president Toshinori Aoki and former BlazBlue series producer Toshimichi Mori, Studio Flare, has released the first key image and concept works showing what he’s been working on. AUTOMATON has also published an interview with Mori, who talks about what the company has been doing since it was established in February 2023.
Projects in Development and Challenges in Progress
“Finally, we have projects and scenarios in the works, and right now we are working on prototypes while we expand our team,” Mori said. “We have a vision of what kind of games we want to make, but we’re also trying to address some challenges, so it’s a process of building and rebuilding. We have some projects going on in Unreal Engine.”
According to Mori, the newly revealed conceptual works are “panels of images that tell a little about what we are working on, what we are creating and what our goals are.” Studio Flare is currently looking for planners, programmers and engineers, 2D artists and 3D artists. Specific jobs include lead battle planner for a 3D action game and senior game programmer for developing games in Unreal Engine 5.
Creative Freedom and Ambitions for the Future
“I think the biggest merit in joining us is the freedom to do things the way you want to do them,” Mori said. “It is an environment where you can easily realize your ideas, so I welcome those with ideas to join us and express themselves to the fullest. I want to get to the point where people look at our games and say ‘Oh, this is Studio Flare.’ In the case of Arc System Works, it was Daisuke Ishiwatari who laid the foundation, but the games became associated with the name ‘Arc System Works’. FromSoftware games, which I admire, are also known as ‘From Games’. That is why I aspire for our company to reach the level where a term like ‘Flare Game’ is coined.”
