NetEase Games announces the creation of BulletFarm, a new AAA game studio

NetEase Games has announced the establishment of BulletFarm, a new AAA game studio based in Los Angeles, California, and led by industry veteran David Vonderhaar. Vonderhaar is best known for his leadership of the Call of Duty franchise, particularly in designing the multiplayer systems for the Call of Duty: Black Ops series. BulletFarm is currently developing an “ambitious new” first-person AAA game, built on Unreal Engine 5 and set in an original universe with an emphasis on cooperative gameplay that promises a more intimate and relatable experience.

Joining Vonderhaar as the studio’s creative director is veteran game designer Chris Cowell. Several key roles are open and the studio is currently seeking top talent to join the founding team.

“Establishing this new studio has given me the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and try my hand at creating something completely new and different,” BulletFarm studio head David Vonderhaar said in a press release. “This is a change from the games I’ve worked on, but it shows my passion for rich characters, precise mechanics, more intimate narrative and lots of action. “NetEase has provided us with an incredible support structure to explore these new paths and allowed us true freedom to start building the concept and ideas for our game.”

Simon Zhu, president of global investments and partnerships at NetEase Games, added: “NetEase Games is completely dedicated to providing BulletFarm with the resources and support necessary to build this new first-person experience. “David’s leadership and the early set of game development talent assembled at the studio is poised to deliver something truly unique to its existing fans along with a new audience.”
