“The Sinking City 2,” a Lovecraft-inspired survival horror sequel announced

Frogwares has announced “The Sinking City 2“, a sequel to the Lovecraft-inspired survival horror game, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG). The launch is planned for 2025, with a Kickstarter campaign also planned.

Game Description:

“The Sinking City 2” is a survival horror game set in 1920s America, in the infamous city of Arkham, now plagued by a supernatural flood that has brought decay and eldritch monsters to its streets. Players will fight nightmarish abominations, explore a decaying city as waters rise and change the landscape, and uncover the dark mysteries that led them to this abandoned place. The sequel will feature a new story independent of the one told in the original game.

Key Features:

  • Fight to Survive: Use an arsenal of 1920s-inspired firearms and melee weapons to take on Lovecraft-inspired aberrations.
  • Explore the decaying city of Arkham: A semi-open world of ruined mansions, flooded markets and abandoned hospitals. As you progress, the flood waters will rise, changing the layout of the locations when you return.
  • Find and use what you can: Search for limited resources and balance a finite inventory as you decide what to take and what to leave behind.
  • Choose to investigate further: Solve optional puzzles that allow you to further investigate your surroundings to discover secrets, alternative options, and more lore.
  • A twisted tale inspired by Lovecraft: Experience a morally gray and captivating story set in Lovecraft’s myth of cults, mutated creatures, and incomprehensible gods.

Renewed focus and community support:

With “The Sinking City 2,” Frogwares hopes to shift the studio’s focus toward horror, with gameplay built primarily around combat, exploration, and its Lovecraftian setting and narrative. The team has also finally managed to move to Unreal Engine 5 to take advantage of the technological advances that the engine offers.

The Kickstarter campaign not only seeks to create a cushion for the studio amid the conflict in Ukraine, but also to secure additional features for the game and offer support to the Frogwares community.

“With ‘The Sinking City 2,’ we hope to continue doing what people love about us, delivering story-rich experiences, while we evolve,” said Sergiy Oganesyan, director of publishing at Frogwares. “It’s exciting, but at the same time risky. We are a completely independent studio that for the last 24 years has stood out for detective games. But we need to start making bolder decisions.”

Conclusion:

“The Sinking City 2” promises to immerse players in a dark and twisted world inspired by Lovecraft, offering an intense survival horror experience full of mystery. With its renewed focus and support for the community through Kickstarter, Frogwares seeks to secure the future of the studio while continuing to deliver rich and captivating stories to players.
