Closing of the Deviation Games development studio: A blow to the industry

The Los Angeles-based developer, Deviation Games, has announced its closure. Founded in 2020 by Call of Duty veterans Dave Anthony and Jason Blundell, the studio had generated great buzz by announcing in 2021 that it was working on a “groundbreaking original AAA intellectual property” in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment.

News of the closure follows the announcement in September 2019 that Blundell was leaving the studio, reportedly to join Sony Interactive Entertainment.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Deviation Games,” said Kriste Stull, director of human resources and operations at Deviation Games, in a post on LinkedIn. “I want to express my deepest gratitude to our entire team. Thank you for all your hard work, dedication, and contributions to Deviation; “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked with each of you.”

In an effort to help employees affected by the closure, Deviation Games will soon host a networking event to which it will invite all recruiting companies.

This closure represents a blow not only to Deviation Games and its team, but also to the video game development industry in Los Angeles. Fans and industry professionals are waiting to see what will become of the talented Deviation Games team and if new projects will emerge as a result of this news.
