VitruviusVR has revealed the virtual reality adventure game “Arken Age” for PlayStation VR2 and SteamVR, scheduled to be released in early 2024. This single-player title takes place in the Bio-Chasm, a terraformed fantasy world created by the Great Arborist.
Game Description: In “Arken Age,” players immerse themselves in completely physics-based combat using swords and weapons infused with Arkenite. They explore densely populated environments under siege by Hyperion’s neural corruption. The main focus during development was realistic physics-based combat, unique virtual reality weapons, and the creation of a full campaign with an infinite replay mode.
Players start with three fully customizable weapons and can collect a total of 30 unique weapon modifications. Each accessory is designed specifically for VR gameplay, from the Hyperion God Axe, a throwing ax that can be retrieved at will, to the Tempered Cutter, a deployable saw blade that dismembers enemy limbs, and the Astral Ballista, a high power charging arc, to name a few.
In “Arken Age,” players embody an alien biological creation with full locomotion and the abilities to jump, crouch, climb and swim freely. They can see their entire body in first person and carry all weapons physically on their character. They aren’t the only versatile creatures in this world, however, as enemies can dynamically jump, climb buildings, and switch between long-range weapon combat and close-range sword combat in real time.
The game offers an unparalleled combat experience in virtual reality, allowing players to physically push enemies, knock them down by sweeping their feet, impale and pick them up, shoot them out of the air, and dismember all mechanical joints.
History and Environment: The plot begins in the Tower of the Celestial Custodian on the shores of the Bio-Chasm, a terraformed realm created to harvest Arkenite Energy. The divine founder, the Great Arborist, has ceased cultivation of the planet, and every transmission sent to him has been met with abject silence. Players will uncover the truth behind the disappearance of the Grand Arborist, forge alliances with the alien Nara race, and confront the usurper Hyperion and his legion of corrupt soldiers.
The Bio-Chasm is an expansive environment filled with unique life forms, strange artifacts, and endless dangers. Players will explore guarded tombs of the mysterious Nara race, swim through abandoned water passages, search underground facilities, and climb the twisted roots of the Bio-Chasm.
