Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is coming to Switch on May 23

Nintendo has announced that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door will be released for Switch on May 23. This turn-based role-playing game was first released for the GameCube on July 22, 2004 in Japan, followed by October 11, 2004 in North America, and November 12, 2004 in Europe. The Switch version adds revamped graphics and “a suite” of additional changes that make the game easier to enjoy.

A summary of the game, provided by Nintendo.com, describes Mario’s exciting adventure to collect the Crystal Stars before the X-nauts. With the help of a map from Princess Peach and some locals, Mario ventures through a colorful world made of paper to find them first. To succeed in this quest, you’ll need to upgrade Mario and his friends, master time-based attacks and badges to impress the audience on the combat stage, and make use of all the abilities that come with being cursed…sorry, conveniently made of paper, such as bending into an airplane to cross large gaps or turning sideways to slide through narrow openings.

In this deep and captivating story, where everyone has something to say and often it’s not what you’d expect, Mario will meet all kinds of interesting people on his journey. Some of these characters will need your help with their own quests, or will even join your team! Others, like Peach and Bowser, have stories of their own that you’ll play through between Mario chapters.

Twenty years after the original game on the Nintendo GameCube system, this version for the Nintendo Switch system features revamped graphics and a host of additional changes that make the game easier than ever to enjoy. Fans are eagerly awaiting this re-release that promises to bring back the nostalgia of one of the most beloved installments of the Paper Mario series.
