RTA in Japan has revealed exactly why Nintendo titles won’t feature at the huge speedrunning event in The Land of the Rising Sun. The team says that they were told by Nintendo that they needed to apply for permission to feature each individual game in the tournament. Therefore RTA in Japan will not be using any Nintendo-owned title for this summer’s event, which takes place 9th August to 15th August. Instead, they will apply next year to feature Nintendo first party video games. The event previously featured a large number of Nintendo games with the iconic Super Mario 64 having the highest viewership of the tournament last year.
