Capcom has achieved its 12th consecutive year of increased profit, with help from the huge success of the Monster Hunter series and its latest release Monster Hunter Wilds.
Operating income for the company as a whole was up 15.2 percent year-on-year, with the game segment specifically achieving an 8.9 percent increase (separate to the company’s arcade, amusement equipment, and other businesses).
As a result, Capcom has now achieved its goal of 10 percent annual growth in operating income for 10 consecutive fiscal years. Its next goal is to achieve 100m units in annual sales of its games – it’s already over halfway there.
In part that’s due to the success of Monster Hunter Wilds. As announced back in March, the latest in the series has sold over 10m units in its first month of release. Capcom has not provided a further sales figure.
The game’s release has also provided momentum to grow the rest of the series, with previous games Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Monster Hunter Rise receiving boosts in sales. Mobile game Monster Hunter Now has also exceeded 15m cumulative downloads.
The series as a whole has now surpassed 100m units sold worldwide.
Capcom has yet to update its list of top-selling Platinum Titles since the end of last year, but already Monster Hunter Wilds looks like it will break into the top 10.
As for what’s next for the company, it cites Capcom Fighting Collection 2 and the Onimusha 2 remaster both out in May, as well as Street Fighter 6 and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess both coming to Switch 2 in June.
A new Onimusha game, Way of the Sword, is in development and is set for release in 2026. A new Okami game is also in development, alongside Hideki Kamiya’s new studio Clovers.
Both projects were announced at the end of last year, as Capcom stated it was working on revivals of its dormant series.
“In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently,” read a press release to investors at the time.
“The company is working to further enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content, which includes reviving past IPs like [Okami and Onimusha], in order to continuously produce highly efficient, high-quality titles.”
Looks like yet another profitable year could be on the way.
