Annapurna Animation Announces STRAY Adaptation and More Video Game Projects

Annapurna Animation has announced its plans to develop a film adaptation of STRAY, the popular video game. This company, part of Annapurna Pictures, also intends to adapt more titles from Annapurna Interactive’s extensive video game library, in an effort to bring gaming experiences to the big screen.

Creative Expansion and New Talents

The announcement of the STRAY adaptation is part of a broader announcement regarding the expansion of Annapurna Animation’s creative leadership team and film pipeline. Nick Bruno, director of NIOMONA, Julie Zackary, industry veteran and producer of NIMONA, and Erica Pulcini have joined Annapurna Animation.

Julie Zackary, former Blue Sky Studios executive, will take on the role of head of animation production at Annapurna Animation. For her part, Erica Pulcini will serve as creative executive and will help select, develop and further define Annapurna Animation’s film slate. Additionally, Nick Bruno will develop and direct an untitled original film and is actively working on several new original ideas under Annapurna Interactive.

Development projects

Among the projects in development is FOO, the new film from director Chris Wedge, known for writing and directing Blue Sky Animation’s “Bunny” in 1998 and later directing “Ice Age” in 2002.

Annapurna Animation has already unveiled its debut project, NIMONA, which premiered on June 14 at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and was released globally on Netflix on June 30.

With this expansion and the adaptation of STRAY, Annapurna Animation demonstrates its commitment to bringing captivating video game experiences to the big screen and continues to expand its presence in the world of animation and entertainment.
