High profile webcam makers pledge updates to work with Nintendo Switch 2

GameChat is a great way to converse and get stuck into some Mario Kart World action with your friends. However, you may have found that that spare webcam you have lying around isn’t compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. That’s about to change as two high profile webcam companies have pledged that they will soon deploy firmware updates for their webcams enabling them to work on the Nintendo Switch 2. Ugreen and Elgato are the first two companies to promise firmware updates. Here’s what’s needed to make a webcam work with the Nintendo Switch 2:

  • “The camera must not use the HID protocol.”
  • “The camera must be configured for Isochronous transfer mode.” (As opposed to Bulk, which can be more resource intensive.)
  • “The USB endpoint descriptors must not include unsupported low frame rate settings (below 30 fps).” More on that one in a sec.
