SEGA president: “Nintendo has been playing an amazing role” with games and hardware

The Game Business website has published an exclusive interview with Shuji Utsumi, CEO of SEGA America and SEGA Europe, and the COO and President of SEGA Corporation. The interview is an extensive one and well worth checking out if you have a passing interest in the long-running developer and publisher. Mr. Utsumi was asked about the console business and the growing threat of both PC and mobile devices. He said that he is concerned about this as his background has been launching beloved consoles such as the PlayStation and Dreamcast. Though he admitts that Nintendo has been “playing an amazing role” launching both critically acclaimed games and impressive hardware.

“Since I was a member of the PlayStation launch team, I have a big attachment to the console business,” he told us. “And Nintendo has been playing an amazing role… Jesus, they made a great contribution to this area. I didn’t expect Switch 1 to be that successful. Nobody did. But the big huge trend is PC, with its global market reach, and mobile, of course, which is getting better and better in terms of graphics.”
