This news includes the recent announcement of the console versions of the game. The studio has also released a new trailer and screenshots that offer a first look at the game and introduce the protagonist, Jan, a simple worker stranded alone on a distant planet. Additionally, they are introduced to the many alternate versions of Jan, each with her own life path, making them similar but different at the same time. Building relationships between the Jans will be crucial to their collective survival.
The game, titled “The Alters,” is forged in the spirit of meaningful entertainment and is driven by life-defining choices and the exploration of various paths one could take. The inhospitable planet Jan landed on is moving towards a massive sun, causing radiation levels to increase. In this desperate race against time, Jan must harness the local Rapidium crystals to create the many versions of herself, known as the “Alters.” The game takes place in a constantly moving mobile base, where both teamwork and building a wide range of skills are essential for survival.
By selecting different paths for the other Jans during the alteration process, they gain different skill sets. This makes them invaluable assets, not only for base maintenance, but also for tasks such as cooking, crafting tools for surface exploration, and gathering essential resources. However, Alters are more than just resources. They are conscious beings with their own emotions, problems, goals, and sometimes existential doubts about their purpose. Despite their differences, their collective goal is to escape, echoing Jan’s determination to survive: “I will do it all by myself.”
