Digital Eclipse announces “Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story”

Digital Eclipse has announced the release of “Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story“, the second entry in its Gold Master Series, available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC through Steam. This interactive experience offers a fascinating journey through the life and work of Jeff Minter, one of the most peculiar and wild game developers of the British scene of the 80s and 90s.

In this interactive documentary, players will be able to explore the story of Jeff Minter, the creative genius behind games like Gridrunner, Revenge of the Mutant Camels, Tempest 2000, and Llamatron. The narrative delves into the universe of British video games of the 1980s and 1990s, where Minter stood out for his unique focus on shooters, sheep, lasers and flames.

The virtual documentary features a collection of 42 classic games from eight different platforms, spanning from Minter’s early work on the Sinclair ZX81 and Commodore VIC-20, to his contributions on Spectrum, Commodore 64, Atari 800, Atari ST and Atari Jaguar. Minter’s iconic Gridrunner receives an update with modern graphics and sound, maintaining the essence of the original game for 100% accuracy in gameplay.

Featured titles include Sheep In Space, Andes Attack, Attack of the Mutant Camels, Matrix, Metagalactic Llamas Battle at the Edge of Time, Hellgate, Laser Zone and many more. The collection includes new quality of life features to make the gaming experience more fun than ever.

In addition to the games, “Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story” introduces two of Minter’s first “light synths,” Psychedelia and Colourspace, with new options and features optimized for controller play. Also included is Jeff Minter’s demo of Attack of the Mutant Camels for the never-released Konix Multi-System console.

This initiative is part of Digital Eclipse’s Gold Master Series, which presents iconic games in an innovative “interactive documentary” format, combining the shared history of the games and their creators into a comprehensive package. “Heart of Neon,” a documentary about Jeff Minter directed by Paul Docherty, is also included as a unique celebration of Minter’s career in the home video game entertainment scene.
