Freedom Planet 2 will arrive on consoles on April 4

Publishers XSEED Games and Marvelous Europe, along with developer GalaxyTrail, have announced that Freedom Planet 2 will be released digitally for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch on April 4 for $24.99. Pre-sales on the Nintendo eShop are currently available with a 10% discount.

The PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions support cross-buy functionality, while the Xbox release supports Smart Delivery. Freedom Planet 2, which initially launched for PC and Linux via Steam on September 13, 2022, will expand its reach to consoles, bringing with it the exciting action and high-speed platforming that the franchise is known for.

A newly released video shows the four playable heroines racing through levels with the franchise’s iconic high-speed pixel platform to save Avalice from the ancient water dragon Merga and her plans to destroy the moon. The video also introduces the new fan-requested ‘Boss Rush’ mode, which will be included in all console versions of Freedom Planet 2 and will be added to the PC version simultaneously at launch.

These new challenges will be accessible from the in-game Battlesphere, bringing the total number of challenges and modes available to 20. ‘Boss Rush’ will feature two divisions with 17 deadly bosses each, challenging Lilac, Carol, Milla or Neera in a marathon of speed and skill. Players who manage to defeat both boss divisions will unlock access to a special in-game VIP room with surprises for dedicated Freedom Planet fans.

Return to the vibrant world of Avalice to face an ancient threat in the highly anticipated sequel to the surprising indie action-platformer hit, Freedom Planet. The three main heroines have honed their skills, making them more formidable than ever. She takes advantage of Lilac’s speed with her Dragon Boost, reaches new heights with Carol’s Jump Disc or motorcycle, or takes a more measured approach with Milla’s shield. New playable character Neera won’t be far behind either, as she can use her powerful Frost Arts to punish enemies.

Like its predecessor, this high-speed platforming adventure offers exciting momentum-based action, but advances the formula with new gameplay systems and improvements. With 24 expertly designed stages, an ambitiously expanded Adventure mode, retro yet refined 2D visuals, and the addition of the highly requested ‘Boss Rush’ mode, Freedom Planet 2 is the indie gem that has grown to become a true power of platforms.
