Square Enix will merge with Tokyo RPG Factory in a type of merger by absorption, the company announced. This strategic measure seeks to strengthen Square Enix’s position in the RPG video game market, consolidating its resources and talent.

With this merger, Square Enix, as the surviving company, will inherit all assets and liabilities of Tokyo RPG Factory, the dissolving company, including intellectual properties, development and marketing teams, as well as any debt or financial commitment. As a result, Tokyo RPG Factory will cease to exist as an individual entity.

Tokyo RPG Factory, a subsidiary of Square Enix established in 2014, has been known for its focus on creating role-playing games with a nostalgic style, reminiscent of the classics of the genre. Among its most notable releases are I Am Setsuna (2016), Lost Sphear (2017) and Oninaki (2019)titles that have been well received by RPG fans on various platforms such as PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC.

This merger will allow Square Enix to further leverage the talent and experience of Tokyo RPG Factory to continue innovating and delivering memorable gaming experiences in the competitive RPG market. Fans will be watching to see how this union will affect the development of future titles and the creative direction of the combined company.
