Embracer Group considers options for The Gearbox Entertainment Company, including a possible sale

According to three people familiar with the matter, Embracer Group is evaluating various options to The Gearbox Entertainment Company, which could include its sale. Two of the sources indicated that Embracer Group has received interest from third parties interested in acquiring Gearbox Entertainment, a company that Embracer first acquired in February 2021.

Embracer Group is reportedly working closely with Goldman Sachs and Aream & Co. to explore the possibility of a sale. However, despite third-party interest, sources also warn that a deal is not guaranteed to happen. Representatives of both Embracer Group and Goldman Sachs declined to comment when contacted by Reuters.

Notably, last June, Embracer Group announced a large-scale restructuring program that included layoffs, studio closures, and game cancellations. Since then, there have been several layoffs, with Saints Row developer Volition closing its doors after 30 years of operation.

The situation of The Gearbox Entertainment Company is presented as a topic of interest in the entertainment and video game industry, and we will remain attentive to any future developments in this matter.
