John Rhys-Davies returns as Gimli in the opening cinematic of The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria

Publisher North Beach Games and developer Free Range Games have excited Lord of the Rings fans by releasing the opening cinematic for their co-op survival and creation game, The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. In this cinematic, actor John Rhys-Davies reprises his role as Lord Gimli Lockbearer.

Exclusive interview with John Rhys-Davies

As part of the celebration of Durin’s Day, the dwarven holiday celebrated on October 17, John Rhys-Davies will join the Nerd of the Rings YouTube channel for an exclusive interview. In this conversation, he will talk about his role in the game, his collaboration with the development team, and his return to The Lord of the Rings, among other topics. The interview will take place today at 9:00 am PT / 12:00 pm ET.

In a statement, Rhys-Davies expressed his excitement about reprising the role of Gimli: “It’s always fun to come back and think about the ‘what ifs’. The opportunity to work on this game is an exploration of one of those ‘what ifs’, right? Actors often create characters out of love, and sometimes it’s very difficult to let them go. Gimli is certainly a character I adore, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to revisit him in a different context.”

The authenticity of The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria

Free Range Games CEO Chris Scholz highlighted the importance of authenticity in the game and the choice of John Rhys-Davies for the role of Gimli: “Authenticity is fundamental in The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, and When it came to choosing Gimli, there was only one name that everyone wanted. “It has been an honor, a privilege and a dream to have Mr. John Rhys-Davies reprise this iconic role.”

Exploring the Fourth Age of Middle Earth

The game will take us beyond the books and into the Fourth Age of Middle-earth, the fantastic world created by JRR Tolkien. Summoned to the Misty Mountains by Lord Gimli Lockbearer, players will band together as a company of dwarves tasked with recovering the lost treasures of the dwarven homeland of Moria, known as Khazad-dum or Dwarrowdelf, deep beneath their feet. Your quest will require strength and teamwork, as you delve into the Mines of Moria to recover its treasures and restore them to their former glory.
