Developer Systemic Reaction has announced that the popular dinosaur-themed multiplayer first-person shooter, Second Extinctionwill be removed from sale in Early Access and its servers will close sometime in 2024.
An unexpected goodbye
Second Extinction made its debut in Early Access for PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store on October 13, 2020. It later arrived in the form of Game Preview for Xbox Series and Xbox One on April 28, 2021. The game was originally scheduled to leave Early Access status on October 20, 2022, but was delayed to 2023 due to technical issues.
A sad but necessary statement
In a message to the gaming community, Systemic Reaction expressed its regret over the closure of Second Extinction. Although the game was loved by players and the gaming community, it did not achieve the success they expected. Additionally, they faced technical issues that prevented them from exiting Early Access and Game Preview status.
Technical difficulties and resource limitations
The development team had initially planned to release version 1.0 of the game last year, but they ran into critical issues that forced them to delay the release. Ultimately, they realized that they did not have the resources necessary to meet their quality goals and exit Early Access and Game Preview status. The investment needed was too great for the team. Despite their efforts this year to find solutions, reality prevailed.
A closing with a taste of farewell
The closing of Second Extinction marks the end of an adventure full of dinosaurs and multiplayer action. The game had a loyal fan base, but unfortunately it could not reach the expected level of success.
A thank you to the community
Systemic Reaction thanked players and the community for their support throughout the Second Extinction adventure and promised to continue working on future projects. The servers will remain open for some time in 2024, allowing players to enjoy their experience in this dinosaur-filled world while it lasts.
